Dr. Soykan Barlas was born in 1977 in Istanbul, Turkey. After he obtained his medical degree from the prestigious Cerrahpasa
Faculty of Medicine in 2003, he completed his residency at Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital where he specialized in
general surgery.

Following residency, Dr. Barlas has received advanced laparoscopic surgery training in Scotland and was awarded with a
‘Certificate of Excellence” by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health for his contributions to the establishment and studies of Lütfi
Kırdar Training and Research Hospital Burn Center.

Dr. Barlas then fulfilled his compulsory service duty to his country by joining Inebolu State Hospital in Kastamonu where he
practiced as internal medicine and general surgery specialist.
In 2013, after moving back to Istanbul, he accepted a position at Florence Nightingale Hospital, joining one of the top kidney
transplant and general surgery groups in the country. Since then, he has been performing a range of complex gastrointestinal,
colorectal and abdominal surgeries. In addition to specializing in kidney transplant, he also has extensive training on minimally
invasive laparoscopic surgery and latest cutting edge techniques.

Almost two decades of clinical experience under his belt, Dr. Barlas helps his patients with all aspects of general surgeries
including weight loss (bariatric), various abdominal, vascular and colorectal procedures as well as thyroid, gallbladder, biliary,
hernia and all gastrointestinal related oncologic surgical issues. His philosophy of surgical care is to treat all patients as he would
want his own family members to be treated.
Since 2017, Dr. Barlas has also been working as an academician at the Faculty of Medicine at Demiroğlu Bilim University. He
has written more than 20 articles on general surgery and kidney transplants which are published both in national and
international journals and more than 30 papers presented, again, in both national and international meeting platforms.

He also has contributed to several internationally acclaimed books on kidney transplants and advanced general surgical techniques.
Most recently, Dr. Soykan Barlas was awarded the title of “Associate Professor of General Surgery” in 2020.

Besides his non-stop interest in researching latest techniques and advancements in his field, he enjoys spending his free time
with his lovely wife, who also is a doctor, specializing in Pediatric intensive Care and their handsome son.
